Choose a wool throw for its intended use: an armchair, sofa, bed or travelling. Throws, bedspreads and blankets can overlap in use, but need not share the same construction or dimensions.
Measure the area to cover, then decide separately whether you want an overhanging edge. For an armchair, check coverage from shoulders to feet. Loose knitting differs from dense woven fabric in surface and susceptibility to snagging. Compare edges, fringe and the reverse side.
Softness and warmth cannot be inferred from wool percentage alone. Thickness, construction and finishing also matter. Before buying, check whether you can dry the throw as its label requires. A large wet item is heavy: support its whole surface when lifting. A decorative throw should not automatically be treated as an infant sleep product.
